How to Remove Someone from a Skype Chat

Ever created a group chat and then had to remove someone from the conversation?

Sure, you can just start a new chat and leave them out of the invite, but now you have two chat histories, two chat groups with the same topic, and more.

Turns out that Skype has some hidden commands that you can use ala IRC.

Specifically, to boot someone from a group chat, type:

/kickban skypeusername

This will remove the specified skyper user from the group chat and prevent them from getting back in. Please note that you need to type their username, not their display name. You can find their username by hovering over their display name in the contact list or viewing their profile.

Everyone in the chat – including the person you just booted – will see a message that you have ejected and banned said user, so it’s not a secret, but it does the job.

  1. Accidentally included someone to a 2 person chat. I deleted that contact as a form of removing that person. if I sign him up again, will he be part of the chat automatically?

    1. Removing someone as a contact does not remove them from the chat, so they’re likely still part of that chat, regardless of if you add them back or not. If you accidentally added the person to a one-on-one chat and it became a three person chat, just start a separate chat with the first person. The best option is still, however, to boot them as per above. 🙂

    1. That is true. You have to be the person that created the chat group to boot someone for obvious reasons. 🙂

        1. Well actually I think you have to because me and my friend are in a chat and we made a mistake by adding loads of people, but we didn’t make the chat. We tried to remove the people who wasn’t supposed to be there, but it didn’t work.

  2. OK. So simple. Just right click their names where everyone is listed and click remove person from this group. The simplest way.

  3. I tried it just now , it doesn’t work this command /kickback skypename .I’m the creator of course of the group. Can somebody help me ? I think skype already disabled this kind of command. I tried it on my desktop the reply is
